I see OS X as behind both Vista and modern Linux distro's
(OpenSuse10.2, Ubuntu Edgy, FC6, etc) in a variety of areas.
I suppose working with Linux as intensively as I have, over the past ten
years (even longer as a hobbyist), makes for perception that is better
in sync with reality.
I agree that Linux has come a long way, and I never disputed that Linux
is quite usable. However, in terms of user experience, coherency,
hardware support, user friendliness, support, innovation, both Windows
and OSX leave Linux well behind as a competitor of no significance.
I am and have been a huge fan of Linux, but I cannot see Linux for
anything else than what it really is, it's been making inroads as a
light weight server, but as desktop solution it's still very much in
it's infancy with a hobbyist following.
