This is why one shouldn't ask questions before sleeping on it. Sorry
about that, I'd managed to get all the wrong parts of my brain working
on the question. Naturally a socket has no concept of bandwidth, only
how much data is being chugged into it, and specifically the size of
chunks you feed it.
