Adding to my own message...

Note that if you open an RB project file using the Finder, RB launches without creating a default project and just opens your project showing it as it was when last saved. So if you launch using your project file and not RB itself you don't have this problem.

This even works if you double click the desired project file in the Finder WHILE RB is opening. This allows you to first select the desired version of RB, launch it, and then double click the project you want to work on. You wind up with your project open and no default project to deal with.
