Yes, that's right. MW solved their business problems by selling out to Moto.

CodeWarrior for Mac persisted long enough for MW to evolve some sort of Mac
strategy. Its likely that they caught wind about xCode. But when Apple comes
up with a free solution that significantly overlaps the primary user
demographic of your key product, your product is likely doomed. I suspect
that even if Apple was willing to share information with MW enough for MW to
do a port (it seems unlikely but lets give Apple the benefit of the doubt),
it still wouldn't have made business sense for them.

In this respect, Id also prefer to have to compete with Microsoft than Apple
(when it comes to OS vendors). MS is just plain so big that they don't
bother trying to compete with a lot of companies. The Mac market is so small
in comparision that even a nibble by Apple can take out your entire
business. I don't see any malice on Apple's part - if you communicate with
them they are good about setting expectations. Its more like the elephant
reaching out for some food and snorkling up some mice in his trunk.
