You could connect with a normal socket and send the appropriate commands and data per the SMTP specs.

A simpler method is to simply telnet to the SMTP port of the mail server your having trouble with, send the commands/mail data manually and watch to see what is taking the most time. If your sending attachments, you can prepare the binary data and pipe it into the smtp program along with the mail header information.

If you have further questions you can contact me off list.

Hope this helps.

I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem with one of my email accounts. When sending messages (with Eudora) it connects quickly but then hangs for a
significant amount of time before completing the send.

I thought I might be able to troubleshoot this using a SMTPSocket to look at messages being exchanged, but it seems they are obscured from users. Does anybody know of a way to see what the socket is sending and receiving with RB? I know I could do a TCP dump, but I can see other possible benefits of
following the transaction in RB if it's possible.
