Try using RB 2007 R1 on a G4 laptop with 640 MBytes RAM. This version is only usable on my 2GByte Intel iMac. And even then I have to quit RB frequently because of the growing RAM consumption.

I was completely floored by the HUGE memory requirements of the program. I have 2 gigs of memory in a brand new dual core powerbook and while RB's editor and compiler run very fast, switching to another app can often take 5 minutes of grinding after RB has been running for a while. Beyond the VM going over a gig, I've seen the VM usage get to 2 gigs and the REAL memory usage go over a gig. Thats just nuts and makes the machine unusable. Even just compiling the app and trying to run it in debug mode the system goes into swap hell. I can't even run mail in the background while working in RB, much less safari. (which is another resource hog, but not as bad) If you have a feedback item I'll add my name to it. This is really out of hand.
