I don't know if this is kosher, but I use a combination of AppleWorks and Preview to create my icons:

1. Draw them in an AppleWorks Draw document with a small floating 'paint' object, even grabbing sections of screen captures 2. If the object has come in as a group, highlight it and choose 'Ungroup picture', click off the object, drag the top layer of the group aside and delete the white layer below. 3. Use the lasso to capture only the non-white portion of the icon and copy to the clipboard 4. In Preview choose 'New from clipboard'. Export this as jpg or PNG e.g. 'OpenIcon.jpg'. 5. Back in AppleWorks with the icon still lassoed, ensure the fill colour is set to black and choose 'Fill' from the Transform menu 6. Copy to the clipboard and repeat step 4 exporting as a different file name e.g. 'OpenIconMask.jpg' 7. In RB, set the icon and mask files for each toolbar graphic to the respective graphic files.

I haven't had any crashes on Windows, so assume this is an suitable method.

I understand the concept of using platform specific icons. Where I've failed
is in creating decent looking Windows icons with 1 bit masks from my
existing Mac icons. Any tips?

Thanks,

Keith DeLong
