I think REAL is not very real about dealing with the needs of its
users. By unilaterally canceling the lists without even looking for
feedback first from the list users, they are slapping us all in the
face.
Why do the lists work? For me, they have been a place to look for
solutions to problems I cannot solve by myself. Many of the solutions
I have gotten from this list mean bringing features and software to
market more quickly. Sometimes they mean being able to develop
certain software period. Without the lists, REAL may lose real
customers. Apparantly they didn't consider that before deciding the
forums were enough for us. I signed up for the forums months ago. Do
I use them? Sometimes. Have they helped me find solutions to my RB
problems? Rarely. The lists simply have been more effective and
produced real value to me; the forums have produced little value for me.
It is unfortunate that many companies seem to listen less to the
users as they grow bigger and expand their gamut of products and
widen their scope. I have always hoped that REAL would not become one
of these.
Regards,
Jeffrey Martin
