I don't think this is a bug in REALbasic per se, but rather a bug in Mac OS X that particularly affects RB apps. I'm hoping someone here will know something about it, as all my other attempts to dig up more about it have been fruitless.
My machine (a 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo running 10.4.8) occasionally gets in a state where certain sounds no longer play. Other sounds still do play, though. Just this evening it happened again: I was chugging right along, merrily developing an RB app with sounds, and suddenly the sounds no longer played. A reboot didn't fix it; those sounds are still not playing. I tried Armageddon, which has worked fine for ages (so I know the code is good), and it's not playing its sounds either. Other observations: - WAV files in the Finder do play (in the preview column). The same sounds loaded and played in RB do not play. - System 7 sounds in the Finder do not play while in this state (while earlier, before my machine was in this state, they played just fine). - Sometimes in the past, when my machine has been acting like this, iChat sounds have gone silent, and YouTube videos have been silent as well. But tonight, those two are working fine. So maybe there are two different issues here. Has anyone else seen this, or heard of such a problem? Any insight to share?
