Cascade if u are referring to the Aussie lager is inded a good drop. ( if English real ale isnt available ) . New Zealands Stein lager is also very nice indeed.
But lagers and beers tend to taste pretty much the same - subtle differences. The great thing ( imho) with british ale is that they really do vary enourmously in taste. The ones I mention are very distinct and different flavours. Oh and to put the myth to rest, english ales arent served warm, theyre served cool - just not to the point of condensation drops. The thing about most beers ( lagers etc ) is that they HAVE to be seved ice cold, because - unlike fine english ales, they just taste plain awful if served at anything less than -10 degrees ;) When I lived in LA many years ago I remember enjoying Henry Weinhardts. Im sure the beer thing has improved a lot since then ( 1986! ). I also remember going to see a mate in San Francisco who took me to an english style pub somewehere near the sea that did serve a respectable pass at a real ale.
