Hi Colin,
One method I've done is to convert the MP3 file into a MOV.

If you have Quicktime Player (you might need the Pro version of  
Quicktime for this to work): Open the MP3 in Quicktime Player  and  
"Save As" the file with the radio button "Save as self-contained  
movie" selected. Now you can use the resulting MOV file in your movie  
player.
