No, this scenario is not applicable to my situation.

I occurred to me this morning, after I had a night to calm down, that  
the built app being overwritten was probably running at the time of  
the overwrite.
This is clearly a different circumstance, but I STILL would not  
expect RB to delete the associated files.
Everything in that folder except the RB project file was deleted:  
2 .txt files, 2 .pct files used in the project, and 3 folders  
containing 5-10 files each were all deleted.
Fortunately, as I realized this a.m., I did have fairly recent  
backups of those files, so, in the end, all is well. I would still  
warn users to watch out for this unexpected behavior.
