Of course this can be worked around by modifying the Registry. But RB 
did a very nasty thing, to associate no-extension files with your 
product. Very nasty.

Even if you are associating file extensions, at the VERY LEAST you 
need to offer this as an option to the user in the Installer. The 
exception of course being your own extension, and that only after it 
is completely certain that your extension doesn't conflict with any 
major program.

Every time I think RealSoftware is a real pro company they do 
something like this.

At the VERY LEAST they should change their installer NOW, which does 
not infringe on the Release build. Have they?
