You should be able to do your encoding and streaming from one machine. A
P2-350 should have ample power to do this. We currently do live encoding (24
hours, 7 days a week) on a P2-400 with 256MB RAM, and stream it from the
same server. We also serve pre-recorded programs from this server at the
same time. We encode our live stream at 28, 56 and Dual-ISDN surestream
rates (20, 34 and 80k aprox).

Hello real users, I need your help. Correct me if I am wrong, and
please email in addition to replying to the list. I would like to
stream a live audio program encoded at 8.5kbps via an 128kISDN connex.
We will have a link on our web page to access the real audio program,
a login/password will be needed to listen.
>From my understanding, the ISDN should be able to support 9, possibly
10, users on simultaneously without a problem. So in order to do this,
I will need 2 PCs, one to serve as the audio encoder, the other PC
to send out the data via the ISDN connex. My questions are: do I
link the 2 PCs together via network IP or something? Will 2 PCs with
atleast a P200MMX and 64MB ram be sufficient to handle this? This cant
be done on one PC with P2-350 and 128MB ram?
Regarding usage...we plan on using the free real server. Currently
our site has audio being streamed via HTTP. When we change webhosts,
to a host using Real servers, would we then be breaking Real Inc's
rule by our usage of the free Real server for our own live programs
and using the webhost's real server for on demand audio
(and possibly audio/video) programs? I ask that because webhosts
seem to charge much higher rates for live programs, due to their
need of their own PC and server (atleast this is what a webhost guy
told me). The live program will only come on about once per week
with a length of about 3hrs. Therefore it doesnt make too much sense
to pay the high fees of having a webhost stream it for us live.
