Hi Randall,
We've had similar problems, and have been communicating them to Real
support.
Our user base is often experiencing less than 20.0 kb transfer rates
and/or inconsistent transfer rates in their dial-up connections through
independent providers - even with 56.6 modems. When SureStream doesn't
detect enough available bandwidth for the player even for a 20kb
aggregate audio/video stream, it honors the settings that you chose for
offering up a suitable presentation - i.e., if you chose "emphasize
audio", the video may become unsupportable and freeze even though the
audio can continue over the limited bandwidth available.
I must admit, I'm not sure if this is truly the case but I've been
trying to make educated guesses myself.
Here's a question: are the players that you're seeing this freeze occur
on independent of your system, or are you seeing this happen on local
players as well?
