The most important thing you can do the improve the quality of your encoding is
to make sure your analog production is top-notch. Let's not lose sight of the
fact that there's a reason that video and audio engineering is a
profession. If
you need to, call on a professional video and/or audio engineer to help you set
up a process that maximizes your signal quality.
You should be using broadcast-quality cameras, have proper lighting for a video
shoot, use appropriate processing equipment to adjust the video signal, use
proper audio production techniques including proper miking, mixing, compression
and EQ, etc.
Improving the input signal is the best way to improve the quality of the
encoded
video. For non-live encoding, this means avoiding 8mm or VHS sources, applying
audio and video post-processing as needed, etc.
