I cannot second that. If capturing from a cheap cam using a composite
signal, I get much worser image quality than using a DVX-1000 with a
S-VHS connection to the video card. Maybe you don't see a difference
on cheap PC monitors with low resolution and an Osprey-100 for capturing,
but if you look at an SGI O2 for example, which we use for real video
production, you will notice a big difference especially if there is
motion in the picture. The difference is even visible in low quality
20kbps-encoded real streams. Of course, light, contrast and careful
setting of the cam plays an important role, too. Too bad that a G2
encoder isn't available on professional equipment like the O2; so for
a PC-based solution a cheap cam may be sufficient for most people.
