Subject: A Few Real points...

I was wondering what pple though of the following Ideas that I think it may
be benificial for Real to implement:

*** Delayed Multicast:
To minimise bandwidth usage on a highly used server (specifically for a
small number of files) have a feature on the real server (where all the
folowing settings can be specified by the admins) where it will connect
requests to a specified file (unicast) to a multicast, and display a
countdown (or splash screen) while it waits for a specified number of users
or a timeout (whichever comes first) then multicasts the file.

This would greatly increase the efficiency of bandwidth usage of servers
which have many many requests for a limited number of files as it could be
running a few simultanious multicasts to small audiences instead of many
many unicasts.

I'm not sure if its a possibility with current tcp technology... but was
interested in some feedback.

*** Winamp Plugin:
A G2 Surestream (with all the latest whiz bang things) DSP (Digital Signal
Processor?) plugin for Winamp that would allow encoding of playing material
and connection to a server (for live broadcast) or outputting to a file
(very similar to the Shoutcast Plugin). This may appeal to a huge audience
as a *much* better alternative to shoutcast as MPEG L3 does not sound good
at low bitrates. There may be a high takeup of a product such as this as
shoutcast has really taken off and winamp has massive market penetration.

*** Adobe Premier Plugin:
I think it speaks for itself? Microsoft has created one for its Windows
Media Tools... I think a little feature: File -> Export -> Real G2 Media
would be a highly useful commodity.

I would highly apprieciate information on any of the above (if it exists)
and any general comments.... Or information to put me into contact with
people working on or who know about any of the above.

Best Regards to all
LiFe.
