The 2GB file size limit is a limitation inherent to many 32 bit OS and file
systems (not just Windows).

The workaround I'm familiar with comes from AVID. For their Mac and NT
systems they will digitize media to multiple files simultaneously. This
goes on in the background and is largely transparent to the user.

The other workaround is to use a 64 bit OS and 64 file system, e.g. Sun
Solaris, Compaq Tru64, IBM AIX etc.
