Hi Louis,
A voiceover booth would be a good idea.
The booth you build has to be relatively noise free inside. ie. minimal
noise leak from outside, and acoustically quiet and dead inside. There are
many books around that will tell you what and how to achieve the
construction. There are also companies who make portable or prefab rooms.
However, beware of anyone who tells you, you can use egg cartons - you
cannot.
The ME66 is a good start, but you may like to change the capsule to a
cardioid capsule. (Sorry, cannot remember the model number)
I would suggest that you put an audio editing program on one of your PC's.
Something like Cool Edit Pro. You can record directly into the program, or
record onto another medium like DAT, and then transfer.
Cheaper to record direct tho'.
The thing you have to realise about microphones, is that they are not like
ears - they do not discriminate between sound like we do. They pick up
everything. Thus, if there is an airconditioner in the room, if it is as
loud as the voice you are recording at the microphone, it will be picked up
equally as well.
The recorded audio will have to be edited before transfer to Real (encoded).
CEP is good for that.
Note that with digital recording, unlike analog, any going "into the red" or
clipping is a definite nono.
The basics are:
Quiet room with low reverberation ie. acoustically dead, or dying.
High quality cardioid mic. You do not need a Neuman U87, but something meant
for high quality recording. The ME66 can be used with a capsule change..
Recording system which allows editing.
Good recording technique.
Good Luck.
