Yes, Marantz...the Xerox of portable recorders...makes a portable MD
recorder with XLR jacks...but it's pricey.  Something like $1200, I think.

all i would suggest....especially for field recording, is getting a piece
of equipment with XLR connecters rather than 3.5mm mini jack as the former
is substantially more robust...3.5 mm connectors tend to be more prone to
noise as the connector can move around in the socket. All you need is the
slightest amount of grit and your sound will start breaking up...
the other pro to XLR/Cannon is that they tend to be balanced.....

i don't know however if any manufacturer makes a balanced XLR version of a
minidisk recorder as they tend to be consumer items...
