I know in previous versions, only one RealPlayer could be run at a time. If
a second player was started, the first would stop. Apparently this has not
changed. At the last developers' conference (Real '99) I talked to Real
developers (Karim Meghji and Alain Hammel) about this. The following is a
clip from a follow-up email I sent to RealSupport...

Subject: Independent Real Players???
I'm embedding RealPlayer 7 into a WEB page. I want to have two players
embedded and playing different content at the same time. One would be
muted, the other not. Is this possible?
In my html, I have set up two image windows, and two controls. Each pair of
"Image Window"/"Controls" has its own "console" name. (No, neither of
the consoles is named "_master", or "_unique".) For now, I'm playing
from two local files.
When I start one player, it works as expected. When I start the second
player
the first one stops and rewinds! If I restart the first player, the second
one stops and rewinds. If I mute the first player, both mute (the red X
appears over the both speaker icons immediately). What's the point of
having
multiple "consoles" if they players are going to interfere with each other's
operation?
