If I'm not mistaken, the 2.2 kernel has support for the BT848 chipset, so
that means most consumer grade capture cards, like Osprey 100s, Winnov
Videum, and a host of others. Then you simply connect your cam to the
capture card.

We ran a whole slew of linux boxes in NYC to do the Digital Club Festival
last summer, and they worked like a dream. We were using Slackware 6.0. The
whole process was automated and extremely stable.
