I noticed this message on the Dev list and replied, see my reply below. The boards aren't completely gone (at least I hope not), the idea was to save them for posterity as an archive. The wiki should have links to the forums at some point.
The decision to shut down the forums was made mostly because we didn't really have the resources to maintain forums as well as the mailing lists (there was for example a bot invasion just last week on the forum) and our developers preferred to use the mailing list. Personally I quite like the discussion forum -style communications and understand well why someone would prefer them over a mailing list. That's why I thought it would be a good idea to have Mr. Jani Pirkola host realXtend-related forums we could endorse, because his site (Maxping at the moment, back then I believe it was cyberTechNews) has a lot of realXtend-related information and they have people maintaining the forums. Maybe Jani can join the discussion here, I think this approach would still work well?
