I'll answer a couple quickly now, others can hopefully answer more of
your questions:
eventually there is going to be a 0.1.4 version (and hopefully many
others). Which files do I have to copy to a newer installation in
order to keep the virtual world intact? The Diva distribution has a
very helpful migrating/updating tool for this matter and a similar
tool would be an interesting feature.
Mikko Pallari answered this in another post a couple of days ago or so,
didn't sound bad. Support for this in the toolset would certainly be
good indeed.
3. In RealXtend viewer 0.42 when using the default Ogre rendering
engine, objects with scripted particles don't seem to work (i.e. a
fireplace). When reverting to the opensim rendering system (Shift+R)
everything is ok. How do I fix this?

6. I cannot export the avatar in Avatar Creation. I get the message
"login failed: Authentication: The DNS could not resolve the host
name" or "Received no response from 192.168.1.2:10001". I have tried a
number of combinations by they don’t seem to work (i.e.
firstl...@http://192.168.1.2:8002, First Last. In mysql.ini I have
changed the max_allowed_packet to 50M.
Taiga does not come with the old realXtend authentication and avatar
storage server. You can either use the WebDav inventory avatars with
Taiga somehow, or install the old server from the rexserver 0.5 release.
Or use an existing av storage server on world.realxtend.org when testing.
