I don't have too much time to follow discussion these days :-), but - what does it
matter if it is or it is not multiplatform? Isn't it programmer's responsibility
what Alt key he/she assigns to any action?

In reality it was one of requested features - ability to underline some letter of
text by any kind of escape char, to let user know what Alt + key combination works
as hot key ...

view layout [button "E&xit" [quit]] ; "x" would be underlined, Alt + "x" would
perform the action ...
