Shortcuts are a good idea and planned for a future version. Not using the 
Alt key though. Probably either using the plain key or Ctrl + key.

Not, it would not. At least not on many operating systems. There are problems in
Windows, and in AmigaOS Alt + letter is processed by the OS as well and used for
selecting international characters. Having Alt + letter as a shortcut would no
longer allow you to enter international characters into a string gadget.
