Della´s Gingerbread Boys Courtesy of: Central Market Makes 15 - 20 cookies
7 to 7 1/2 cups flour 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon ground ginger 1 teaspoon allspice 1 teaspoon ground cloves 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 cup shortening 1 cup packed brown sugar 1 1/2 cups dark molasses 2/3 cup cold water 6 cups confectioners' sugar 6 tablespoons (about) milk 1 tablespoon lemon juice or vanilla extract For the gingerbread boys sift the flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, allspice, cloves and cinnamon together. Combine 1/3 cup shortening, brown sugar, molasses and water in a bowl and mix well. Add the dry ingredients and mix well. Shape into balls. Chill, tightly wrapped, in the refrigerator. Roll 1/2 inch thick on a floured surface. Cut into boy shapes using a cookie cutter. Place on a nonstick cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 13 minutes or until the edges begin to brown. Cool on a wire rack. For the frosting, combine the remaining 2/3 cup shortening, confectioners' sugar, milk and lemon juice in a bowl and mix well, adding additional milk if needed. Decorate as desired. Della uses white frosting on the body of each boy and uses red and green frosting for the boots, mittens, hats and belts. Use small pieces of raisin for the eyes, a silver candy ball for the belt buckle and miniature chocolate chips for the buttons. After the white frosting has hardened, use red food coloring and a lipstick brush or toothpick to paint on a smile. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Access the Recipes And More list archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/recipesandmore%40googlegroups.com/ Visit the group home page at: http://groups.google.com/group/RecipesAndMore -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
