Josh Gracin Sings Lead at Lonestar Concert

Josh Gracin stepped in for Richie McDonald at a charity concert on Thursday
night (Dec. 7) in Hidalgo, Texas, because McDonald was in Nashville
recovering
from a back injury. Gracin opened the South Texas Academic Rising Scholars
concert with his own set, then returned to the stage to sing several of
Lonestar's
hits, including "Amazed," "Not a Day Goes By," "Smile" and "With Me."
Gracin, who sang cover songs regularly as a finalist on American Idol, is
expected
to release a new album in early 2007.

Billy Joe Shaver Compiles Greatest Hits

An 18-track Billy Joe Shaver compilation will be released Jan. 23 on
Compadre Records. The Greatest Hits project includes "Georgia on a Fast
Train," "Live
Forever" and "Freedom's Child," as well as two previously unreleased songs,
"Light a Candle for Me" and "Melody." Shaver's song "Old Chunk of Coal" is
featured in the new Ashley Judd movie, Come Early Morning. Shaver is a
member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Bluegrass Bands Change Lineups

Bluegrass band, the Grascals, have hired Aaron McDaris as their new banjo
player. David Talbot, a founding member, left the band last week to work
full
time with Dolly Parton. McDaris has most recently been playing with Larry
Stephenson. The Grascals were named Entertainer of the Year at the IBMA
awards
this year. ... In related news, Mountain Heart's Steve Gulley, Wildfire's
Phil Leadbetter and BlueRidge's Alan Bibey have left their bands to form a
new
ensemble, Grasstowne. Jason Davis has been hired to play banjo in the new
group. He has played with the Kenny and Amanda Smith Band and Michelle Nixon
& Drive.
