Kenny Chesney has announced a series of tour dates in stadiums across the U.S. with Brooks & Dunn, Sugarland, Sara Evans and Pat Green also on the bill. The first concert of his Flip Flop Summer 2007 tour will be June 9 in Pittsburgh. Additional dates include Philadelphia on June 23, Seattle on July 7, Cleveland on July 14, Foxboro, Mass. (near Boston) on July 28 and Detroit on Aug. 18. Tickets are on sale Feb. 10, except for Philadelphia and Seattle, which go on sale March 10. Grammy Hall of Fame Honors Country Songs Thu. January 11.2007 5:56 PM EST A number of classic country songs have been chosen as inductees into the Grammy Hall of Fame this year. The honor recognizes a song's achievements in history and encompasses all genres. George Jones' 1980 hit, "He Stopped Loving Her Today," is the most recently released song. Other inductees in the country category include Uncle Dave Macon's "Keep My Skillet Good and Greasy" (1924), Charlie Poole's "Don't Let Your Deal Go Down Blues" (1925), DeFord Bailey's "Pan American Blues" (1927), Emmitt Miller & His Georgia Crackers' "Lovesick Blues" (1928), Jimmie Rodgers' "In the Jailhouse Now" (1928) and "Blue Yodel #9 (Standing on the Corner)" (1930), Patsy Montana & the Prairie Ramblers' "I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart" (1935), the Delmore Brothers' "Blues Stay Away From Me" (1949) and Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" (1974). Dixie Chicks to Perform on Grammy Show Thu. January 11.2007 5:56 PM EST The Dixie Chicks have been announced as performers at the Grammy Awards show on Feb. 11 in Los Angeles. Their single, "Not Ready to Make Nice," is nominated for record of the year, song of the year and country performance by a duo or group with vocal. Their album, Taking the Long Way, is up for album of the year among all genres, as well as country album of the year. The band has won eight Grammys. Other performers at the awards show include Beyonce, Gnarls Barkley and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Carrie Underwood's Album Is Quintuple Platinum Wed. January 10.2007 6:16 PM EST Some Hearts, Carrie Underwood's debut album, has been certified quintuple platinum by the RIAA for shipments of 5 million copies. In making the announcement Wednesday (Jan. 10), officials at 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville said the accomplishment has earned Underwood the fastest quintuple-platinum certification ever for a debut album by a female country artist. Released Nov. 15, 2005, Some Hearts has spent a total of 20 weeks at the top of Billboard's country albums chart. "Wasted," the album's opening track, is Underwood's next single. Stagecoach Fest Announces Top Country Artists Wed. January 10.2007 6:16 PM EST Brooks & Dunn, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson and George Strait are among the performers announced for the first Stagecoach music festival, to be held May 5-6 in Indio, Calif. Other artists on the bill include Jason Aldean, Gary Allan, Sara Evans, Pat Green, Emmylou Harris, the Del McCoury Band, Willie Nelson, Nickel Creek, Sugarland and Lucinda Williams, among many others. Tickets go on sale Jan. 20. Contemporary country, alt-country, bluegrass and storytelling will each be represented by stages at the Empire Polo Field, which will also host the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival the previous weekend. Country Wins Big at People's Choice Awards Wed. January 10.2007 11:20 AM EST Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts all won People's Choice awards on Tuesday night (Jan. 9) in Los Angeles. Chesney and Underwood won awards in the all-genre categories of male singer and female singer. Underwood's "Before He Cheats" won in the country song category. Rascal Flatts' "Life Is a Highway" took awards in the categories of song from a movie and remake. In addition, Bon Jovi's "You Can't Go Home Again" earned rock song honors. Other music winners included Nickelback, Justin Timberlake, Eminem and Shakira. Sugar Hill Records Moving to Nashville Wed. January 10.2007 11:20 AM EST Sugar Hill Records is fully moving its operations to Nashville from Durham, N.C., where the roots label was founded in 1978. At the time of the move, six employees worked in the Nashville office and eight were in Durham. In addition, producer-engineer Gary Paczosa has been hired as head of A&R, a title most recently held by Steve Fishell.
