Chocolate Cake

1-1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter (1/2 stick)
2 c. flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c. dark hershey's unsweetened cocoa
1-1/2 c. buttermilk or sour milk
1-1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

        Preheat oven to dg350.

        In large mixer bowl, beat together sugar and butter until creamy.
Sift together remaining dry ingredients. Add to sugar mixture.
Continue beating, gradually adding butter milk or sour milk and
vanilla until creamy. To sour Milk, add 2 tablespoons cider vinegar to
fresh whole milk. Allow to stand five minutes.

        Grease and flour a 9- or 10-inch tube pan. Pour batter into prepared
pan and bake 45 minutes. Frost when cooled.

        Serves 8 to 10.

Chocolate Butter Frosting

3 oz. sweetened chocolate
3 tbsp butter
2 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
3/4 tbsp whole milk

        Melt chocolate and butter over low heat or over hot, not boiling,
water in a double boiler. Remove from heat and gradually add sifted
powdered sugar and vanilla. Beat in milk to reach desired spreading
consistency.
