This French toast was first served to me many years ago while I was visiting some friends on the eastern shore of Maryland. I have made it a lot. My kids loved it; now my grand kids always ask for it when they visit.
INGREDIENTS: Five or six slices of slightly old bread. You don't want it soft. 3 eggs; 1 half cup of milk; One half cup heavy cream; 2 table spoons sugar; (Splenda can be substituted; 2 teaspoons vanilla; (one if you're using pure vanilla; 1 half teaspoon cinnamon. METHOD: In a long flat dish, I usually use a 9-113 baking dish, beat all ingredients well except the bread of course. Dip each slice of bread in this mixture making sure both sides are coated. For best results, cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. I left it in the refrigerator over night last night and made it this morning. Heat griddle, electric skillet or your favorite large top of the stove skillet. I usually cook each piece about three to four minutes on each side depending on how brown you want your toast. You may also preheat oven to 350 degrees, butter a cookie sheet and cook French toast about 5 minutes on the first side and three on the second. Cooking it in the oven will give results just as good as in frying pan. The secret to this easy sweet French toast is your egg mixture. Enjoy with your favorite jelly, syrup or confectioners sugar. We even like it plain.
