Banana Cake The following recipe was transcribed ver batim fromĀ The Daily Picayune New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana January 11, 1913 One cup sugar, three tablespoons melted butter, one egg, one-half teaspoon orange extract, one-half pint milk, one and one-half cups flour, one and one-half teaspoons baking powder, few grains salt. Beat the sugar, butter, extract, egg and salt together. Mix the baking powder with the flour, and add alternately with milk to the first mixture. Beat thoroughly. Bake in two layers and put together with banana filling. Ice with plain frosting.
