Chocolate Wows
1/3 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 c. unsweetened cocoa
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
6 squares (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate, chopped
1/2 c. butter or margarine (1 stick)
2 large eggs
3/4 c. sugar
1-1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 c. pecans, chopped
1 6-oz. pkg. semisweet chocolate chips (1 cup)
Preheat oven to dg325. Grease two large cookie sheets.
In small bowl combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt.
In heavy 2-quart saucepan melt semisweet chocolate squares and butter
over low heat, stirring frequently until smooth. Remove saucepan from
heat and cool.
In large bowl with mixer at medium speed beat eggs and sugar until
light about 2 minutes, frequently scraping bowl with rubber spatula.
Reduce speed to low. Add cooled chocolate mixture, flour mixture and
vanilla. Beat just until blended, increase speed to medium; beat two
minutes. With wooden spoon stir in pecans and chocolate chips.
Drop batter by rounded teaspoons about 2 inches apart onto prepared
cookie sheets. With small metal spatula, spread batter into 2-inch
rounds.
Place cookie sheets on two oven racks and bake about 15 minutes
rotating cookie sheets between upper and lower racks halfway through
baking until tops are shiny and cracked. Let cookies remain on cookie
sheets on wire racks 10 minutes to cool slightly. With wide spatula
transfer cookies to wire racks to cool completely.
Yield 4 dozen cookies--about 100 calories each.
