Beef Yorkshire Pie

1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1 tablespoon instant minced onion, or 1/4 cup chopped raw
onion
   1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
   1/4 teaspoon pepper
   1/8 teaspoon cloves
2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups milk
3 eggs

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook meat until crumbly.
Stir in onion, garlic powder, pepper, cloves and 1 1/2-teaspoons
salt. Remove from heat and drain off excess fat.

In a bowl, sift together flour and remaining salt. Gradually
stir in milk to form a smooth paste and beat in eggs, one at a
time. Grease a large clean ovenproof skillet or round casserole
dish. (I use a cast-iron skillet.) Heat in a hot oven to
sizzling and pour in half of the flour mixture. Quickly sprinkle
meat mixture evenly over top, then remaining flour mixture.

Bake at 400 degrees F. for 20 to 25 minutes or until mixture
rises and browns. Serve directly from skillet or remove to
serving plate. Cut into pie shape wedges to serve.

Makes 4 to 6 servings
