Since no one seems to make brown flour bean soup, I offer my recipe:
Sort and remove stones from dry navy beans
Cover with water and soak overnight, add more water if necessary
Next day cook for about three hours till beans are  tender
Add one can of chicken broth
Crisp bacon in skillet, remove and put in beans
Add flour to bacon drippings and brown, stirring
Add about two cups of beans to skillet and stir
Return flour-bean mixture to bean pot
Simmer till slightly thickened
Add several slices of smoked butt if desired and simmmer till hot.
