GRANDMA'S PLAIN COOKIES

1/2 c. butter
1 c. granulated sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg, beaten lightly
3 1/2 c. flour
3 level tsp. baking powder
Sugar for dredging
1/2 c. milk

Sift together three times - flour and baking powder. Cream the butter; add the
sugar, beaten egg, milk and the flour mixture. Take the dough on a floured
board (I use a pastry cloth), a little at a time and knead slightly. Roll to a
scant 1/2 inch thickness and cut into rounds or any cookie cutter. Set these
in a baking sheet, dredge with sugar and bake in a moderate oven at 375 degrees
for 12 minutes. Enjoy.
