Girl Scouts in the 1960's and early 1970's.

One recipe is called "Ferry Rings" and it had glazed doughnuts

and roasted marshmallows.

The other recipe was called "Squaw Corn" and it had all kinds

of

neat ingredients like tomato, chili powder cheese and so on. We

made these at camp.

While camping out, Girl Scouts have been known to eat "fairy

rings."

TO MAKE A FAIRY RING, put a marshmallow in the center of a cake

doughnut. Place sideways on a thin stick. Heat over coals.

Marshmallows will stay in the center of the doughnut when

removed from the stick.

The name "fairy ring" comes from an old folktale. People once

believed that mushrooms growing in a circle followed the path

made by fairies dancing in a ring. Fairy rings are found in open

grassy places and in forests.

Squaw Corn

2 lbs. hamburger

1/2 cup onion, chopped

2 cans corn

1/2 lb. cheese, diced

1/2 cup green pepper, chopped

2 cans tomato soup

Salt and pepper to taste

Brown ground beef in onion and drain.

Add other ingredients and heat until hot.

Not sure how many you're cooking for but you might want to cut

this in half unless you want a lot of leftovers!
