DATE NUT BREAD   

      1 1/4 c. sugar
      1 tbsp. melted butter
      1 egg
      1 1/2 c. boiling water
      1 1/2 c. chopped dates
      2 3/4 c. bread flour
      2 tsp. soda
      1/4 tsp. salt
      1 c. walnuts
      1 tsp. vanilla

      1. Pour the water over the dates. Allow to stand for 20 minutes. 
      2. Beat egg; add sugar and melted butter and beat well. 

      3. Strain water from the dates into the egg mixture. 

      4. Sift the flour, soda, and salt into mixture of egg and water. 

      5. Add chopped nuts, dates and vanilla. 

      6. Pour into two bread pans and bake 1 hour in a moderate oven (325 
degrees).  Enjoy.
