I don't wash mine. I do exactly as you do. I love my cast iron.

  Subject: [RecipesAndMore] Cast Iron question

I have a question,, (don't worry its kitchen related) :)

I was at MIL's yesterday and she was washing dishes, she grabbed her iron
skillet and stuck in her dishwater! I said to her ya don't wash cast iron in
soap. She said she has done it for years! I have used cast iron for years, I
love mine, Matter of fact I just bought another skillet Friday at a yard sale,
lady sold it for .50 cents! It's seasoned and in great shape. I couldn't
believe she was selling it so cheap. Anyway,, as I was saying, I always soak
my skillets in warm water, if something is stuck will good, I turn the heat on
low and let it simmer loose, and rinse it clean. I have not had to season mine
at all. MIL said that's gross not washing them clean. What's ya'll opinion on
this?
I got a whole set of nonstick Pots and Pans 15 years ago, as a gift, but
nothing works as well as my cast iron. Does anyone else cook with cast iron?
   Hugs, Janet
