Looks like it took about 5 police to 'arrest' one woman who was not putting up much of a struggle and a man who was trying to slip out of their grasp had to be trussed and carried like baggage by at least 5 - 6 police. Talk about overreaction! The 'officer' stomping out the fire did so with great dedication and satisfaction. Another proud day in Howard's 'rule'. Trudy ABC Newslink Awo arrested at Tent Embassy protest Monday 15 February, 1999 (5:48pm AEDT) Australian Federal Police officers in Canberra have arrested two protesters after breaking up a demonstration outside Parliament House by representatives from the Aboriginal Tent Embassy. Police moved in to seize symbolic sticks and douse a fire, acting to enforce planning rules forbidding unauthorised structures and fires on Commonwealth land around Parliament House. It is the second time they have taken such action in a week. The two demonstrators will be charged with hindering police. Protesters from the Tent Embassy are insisting on a meeting with the Prime Minister and the Minister responsible for Aboriginal Reconciliation, Phillip Ruddock. Tent Embassy spokesman Kevin Buzzacott says they will not be deterred by today's arrests. "We'll be back," Mr Buzzacott said. "We have to come back. We can't walk away from it, we've come too far. "But we're not frightened by these fellas." ------------------------------------------------------- RecOzNet2 has a page @ http://www.green.net.au/recoznet2 To unsubscribe from this list, mail [EMAIL PROTECTED], and in the body of the message, include the words: unsubscribe announce or click here mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Body=unsubscribe%20announce This posting is provided to the individual members of this group without permission from the copyright owner for purposes of criticism, comment, scholarship and research under the "fair use" provisions of the Federal copyright laws and it may not be distributed further without permission of the copyright owner, except for "fair use."
