One of my partner's degrees is in Religious Studies. The thing that annoys her
in Australia (she is from NZ) is that as soon as she mentions this it is assumed
she has studied theology and Christianity.
She primarily teaches Asian and Polynesian religions. Her PhD thesis is on the
impact on women of the Catholic Church in the Philippines. The indigenous
society in the Philippines religion was Animism, and both the religion and the
culture were dominated by women. The Catholic Church soon fixed that.
