Dear Friends,

May 26th, the anniversary of Sorry Day, will see the national launch of the
Journey of Healing. Events will take place in cities, towns and rural
centres across the country. (See www.journeyofhealing.com). I wanted to
let recoznet members know that badges, posters and other information is
available from me.

The Journey of Healing badge is an elegant circular badge, 18mm diameter,
simply the logo of the Journey of Healing in full colour. It has a clasp
fitting. It could be sold at functions for $1 or $2 to raise money for
ongoing activities.

It comes mounted on a card which reads:

'This badge represents Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians looking
together to the sun, expressing our hope that we can create a better future
together.

'Pinning it on is a way to show that you have committed yourself to the
Journey of Healing - to healing the wounds in the relationship between
Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and non-Aboriginal Australians.

'It does not mean you know what to do. That understanding may only come
through sitting and listening, understanding what has gone wrong. 'That was
the process which led to the 54 recommendations of Bringing Them Home, the
report of the National Inquiry into the removal of Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander children from their families. It is a valuable guide to
healing the wounds of our past. But every community is welcome to pursue
the Journey in whatever ways seem appropriate to them.

'On Sorry Day last year, hundreds of thousands of Australians grieved
together for a tragic episode in our past. Many of the stolen generations
found this expression of community empathy profoundly healing.

'If we continue, we will see healing come, and Australia will be known in
the new millenium for the respect and appreciation between its first
peoples and the wider community.'

The badges are available from John Bond, 151 Kent St, Hughes, ACT 2605 Tel
02 6281 0940 Fax 02 6285 3616 Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] They
cost $0.75 each plus postage. Orders of 20 or more will be sent post-free.

Journey of Healing posters are also available. Thanks to a generous
contribution which has just come, we can now supply these free of charge.

Best wishes,

John Bond
