A small point perhaps, in the scheme of things, but why is it almost
impossible to buy an Archie Roach CD in any "mainstream" music shop in
Melbourne!
In one shop I went into the other day I was told to look in the "world
music" section, amongst the celtic revivalists, scottish tattoos, and
estonian folk dances. (Found a couple of digeridoo pieces but no Archie).
In another it was the "alternative" section (again no Archie)
In a third I was told that I could have a copy if I put in a special order,
payed a $5 down payment, filled in a form with my name and address and
waited a couple of weeks.
Finally , in Target of all places, I eventually tracked down a single copy
of a single "Classic" CD, misfiled under A rather than R. At least the shop
assistant here actually knew who he was!
I don't know how the relationship between Mushroom and the record shops
works, but one would have thought that such a prominent figure in the
contemporary Australian music industry might have received a little better
exposure than this.
Cheers
Rod
