Yeah,
OzPolitic is a strange affair when consif=dering the two major parties. In
many ways we have yet to mature into secu;ar politics. The 1955 debacle for
Labor illustrated the compromise for them that exist to this day, they want to
be Trotskyist Roman Catholics and it just dont work, even with the advent of
liberation theology and the Dali Lama. All this born under a gum tree in
Queensland in the 1890s saying "bugger the principles, no niggers gonna get my
job."
Whilst the Libs/Nats are less compromised, they want to be English Victorian
Conservative Anglicans, whilst conveniently ignoring the reforms of the
Emancipation of the 1830s and Palmerston. Oly slightly less of an exercise in
mental gymnastics than Labor.
Viva the lack of a revolution?
