Dear Davina,
Will write to you offline. I was just discussing some things that need to be
put in place to ensure equitable treatment for Indigenous people in court,
especially the different cultural expectations which adversely affect
Indigenous people as it leads to their body language being misinterpreted.
Will write to you more on this. Having done 3 units so far in Koorie Studies
at Monash as a minor for my degree, I'll be doing the fourth, Koorie
Literature, in 2001, if you want to send any suggestions to me for further
imput, I would LOVE to help. I may also be able to 'recruit' some of my
friends and colleagues (esp. with my Uni. studies and work with Bears who
Care. Could you please send me the email you would like sent on to those I
know are in favour of Reconciliation and will possibly also pass it on. I'm
putting a flag on your mail so I can spot any in the 399+ that come through
my computer every day. Looking forward to helping you get sufficient backup
to make this a viable proposition that the Govt will really listen to. I
also have friendly contact with the local members of Parliament so if you
want to send a copy of the finished proposal to me I would be happy to hand
deliver it to their secretary.
