Black Panthers plan Olympic video blitz
AAP --
Black-empowerment activists from the United States plan a video blitz
during the Sydney Olympics of
Australia's treatment of Aborigines, it was reported today.
The Brisbane Courier Mail reported 16 members of the Black Panthers
organisation had gathered
video footage and photographs of poor living conditions of Aborigines
in far north Queensland.
The material would be distributed to Afro-American and mainstream
United States media during the
Sydney Games.
Aboriginal activist Murrandoo Yanner and Aboriginal health expert
Gracelyn Smallwood reportedly met
the group who were in north Queensland for two weeks last month.
Mr Yanner was quoted as saying the material would help show the world
the injustices done to
indigenous Australians.
"They have taken it all back to America and will do the damage from
there," Mr Yanner said.
In a letter to Ms Smallwood, the Black Panthers said they had "come to
bear witness to the pain and
suffering of Aboriginal people".
The Black Panthers have a history of violent protest and criminal
activity but Mr Yanner told The
Courier Mail they now used wealth and influence to further black
empowerment.
