The Sydney Morning Herald
What Perkins gave

Charles Perkins was not only a champion for his people but, probably
without even knowing it, a fountain of inspiration for people living
with the gift of a kidney transplant. He provided this for me and I am
grateful to him for it.

Mandy van den Elshout, Mona Vale, October 19.

Enough already. Please, no more rendering women invisible or
non-existent. Charles Perkins was not Australia's first Aboriginal
university graduate (Herald, October 19).

That honour is Margaret Valadian's - by a few weeks. Margaret graduated
from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Social
Work degree. She went on to do a master's degree in Hawaii.

Pat O'Shane, Hunters Hill, October 19.
