Asking for an open codec in the player or failing that a transcoding tool.
Just as an aside, in Flash Lite 2.0, video can be played using the device native player but within flash, even streaming if the native player supports this. Wouldn’t it be great if the full flash player could use any codecs available on the users system and have the main ones packaged with the player install? Letting us call the encoder we want to use on the client when sending video to Red5 or FMS, seeing as FLV’s can be a container for pretty much anything. As far as business goes it’d be a cool way for the likes of On2 to monetize VP6/7 through mass deployment instead of stifling developers. Pretty straight forward to charge a couple of cents for each user per domain, they’d easily make as much money and would shift the cost to post deployment. We could then have the flash player send better quality video in communication apps, we could send Voip encoded audio directly to Red5/IAX mash ups making browser phones a doddle.
