hi dan,
[dan wrorte] ok is that another FMS variant ?
yes, vcs is a flash video server too, supports all
linux variants, solaris 10 but no windows.
i buyed the developer editon for 99 euros. i can
test everyting with 3 maximal connections.
you can use http streaming and switch to rtmp in
realtime via timecode sync
, thats funny :)
for installation i got 2 binaries, no installation
needed, no java needed. i can start the application
from every folder. i got 1 server binary and 1 admin binary, both are under 1,44 MB. in their developer forum they
wrote that most of the code was written in ASM
?!?!? ( what is ASM ?!) and C.
vcs is a little bit other then fms, it has a
own flash actionscript library to communicate. i dont know
it excatly, but as i understand its not compatible
to the RTMP specification of FMS or RED5.
the server / client uses a 96kbit random key
for each connect. they also have
develope a DRM
system for flv files with server for communicating for AMEX Cards and Postbank
Paysolution
, had no time to test it yet.
[dan wrote] so it stays at 10 seconds or more ?
yes it stays at 10 seconds.
in vcs you have 2 values for buffering. 1 is in the
vcs.conf for "global" buffering, defined in seconds.
with the second value you can set
buffertimes for each flv in the admin interface of vcs.
this is nice, cause you can start playing the movie after 1 second and the buffer goes up to the
value you setup for the requested flv in the admin.
but there is no live option in vcs yet. i asked and
they let me know that the quality of flash encoder
is not good enough to develope a live feature in
vcs. i red that they are working on a live xvid encoder
for the flash player 9. as soon as i have news i
can post it.
i hope that the red5 developement go fast as it is
at the moment. we are at 0.5, you cant
speak here from a final software , but
iam very impressed what we can do with red5, and dont
forget the develope are spending their
free-time on this.
nice weekend
